His love began in high school, carried over to running in college at Millikin University and then to coaching track for over 40 years. In the 40 years he went above and beyond for his athletes. He was the co-founder of the Capital Area Classic coed honor roll track meet in 1981, still held today. He also coached girls basketball at Riverton for years and established the Sangamon County Girls Basketball Tournament the top female player in the tournament receives the Don Hartlaub MVP. Even after retirement he still gave to the sport by clerking and timing at local meets, coaching his grandkids and following all local runners in track and cross country.
Don will be inducted into Millikin’s Athletic Hall of Fame during the 2021 Homecoming weekend for all his efforts and accomplishments while a student athlete at Millikin and beyond. The Don Hartlaub family is honored and humbled by this recognition.
